Why

Once upon a time Ward Cunningham asked Richard Drake to take all wiki pages devoted to Christian topics to a new clublet. Why Would One Bother has the original email. Ward's Reaction says how the migration was explained to Wiki. Why Clublet Initial Pages says how we interpreted "Christian page", based on feedback. We set up the clublet as a open space for anyone who likes to ask and discuss the question why. We may or may not come up with some answers. Jesus and Christianity are certainly on the agenda but they're not the only things on the agenda. Keith Braithwaite kindly agreed to join Richard Drake in hosting. Keith is a self-described lapsed Catholic and we both welcomed people of all beliefs and none (including those who vary between those two states).

Example Big Why Questions

  • "Why didn't technology people know what was going to happen with the Y2K bug?"
  • "Why did the Big Bang have the right balance of matter to anti-matter?"
  • "Why is there always a teaspoon left in the water when you think you've finished washing up?"

and many others questions, including those relating to the social implications of technology, would be welcome here.

Worth noting the three exemplar questions of November 2000. Let's have more Why Humor or perceptive wHimsy please - like Walden Mathews' incomparable Ever Wonder Why and Trashing Loonies. The Scientific Method has had a fair run in the park and as we say Fond Farewell to our first four years we aim to take The Road To Reality with Roger Penrose for the next four. But the social implications of technology have definitely been neglected. Let's start with Four Five Six.

Initial discussion

Initial discussion of the start-up process was in Why Clublet Initial Pages, Copyright Issues, Ward's Reaction, General Reactions and Is This Clublet Christian.

Where do I start?

Starting Points and Worldview Risk Management are good places to start browsing more recent material. Find has a random list of pages, updated with random frequency. Recent has the latest news.

Which software is this site running?

The clublets software, once known as Niki Niki. Email Richard Drake for more details.

How did this page get such a short name?

Using splits.

The Censored History Of Wiki continued, September 2003

The Wiki page corresponding to this one (here) has been subject to attack for the last three days, for the upteenth time. The first day's befuddlement and impersonation is described in Wiki Pedant. The version shown as I edit this ascribes a sentence to me that is many words away from anything I would ever leave on Wiki. The joyless purveyor of Semantic Spam has again been panicked into adopting the User Name of Richard Drake and six to eight other addresses, for fear of anyone discovering their works.
